I’m a Lovebird OB Gyne
I was in the aviary last Saturday — visiting, and checking our pets condition. We have over a hundred birds - couples, chicks, and singles looking for their pair.
That Saturday wasn’t an ordinary day at the aviary..
But first, let me tell you the background of the story. A lovebird pair has 5 or 6 fertile eggs - and its a lot! Its more than an average pair can handle - very risky. So what we did (as we always do), we moved the egg to a new nest, new parents. So we placed the egg beside the real eggs of the foster parent. It was ok.. but not until saturday.
The foster parent cracked the egg! We observed it for 5 hours, and nothing changed - still the same partly-cracked egg. To save the chick’s life, we have to get her off the shell.

Its very tiny — same size of my thumb nail. I had to carefully take her off the shell. To appreciate it better, here’s the video:
